Carbon Credit Impact

I-Hemp Katalyst supports evaluating the life-cycle carbon flows and assigning carbon credits for sequestration activities. It introduces the concept of Full-Cycle Carbon Emissions (FCCE), which accounts for all emissions associated with the resources used in a sequestration process.

We Propose a Time-Adjusted Value of Carbon Sequestration (TVCS) to weigh potential future releases of sequestered carbon.

Carbon trading system, credits can only be assigned during the active life of the sequestration plant, when sequestration activity is occurring. Any emissions outside this timeframe must be accounted for separately.

Developing a “figure of merit” that relates the investment made (carbon release during construction) to the lifetime sequestration capacity of the activity, incorporating the time value of carbon flows.

I-Hemp Katalyst is working towards a methodology for comprehensively evaluating the life-cycle carbon impacts and assigning appropriate carbon credits for sequestration activities, with the goal of providing a standardized approach for comparative assessment of different technologies

What is carbon offsetting?

A growing number of organizations, cities, and even entire countries are talking about becoming carbon neutral. And many such plans are likely to have one thing in common – the presence of a carbon offsetting.

A few years ago, that probably would have meant planting trees or investing in a reforestation project. Now you can buy carbon credits to establish an ongoing program of carbon offsetting, so that for every action – a new division or building, a new fleet of vehicles, or a flight and so on – you simply buy more credits to cancel out your emissions.

“A carbon offset, sometimes called a carbon credit, refers to paying someone else to reduce their carbon emissions or increase their carbon sequestration (as in by planting trees) in order to offset your own carbon emissions. In many situations, it is more affordable to buy carbon offsets than to reduce your carbon emissions.”
